Body Granola Information
What is Body granola
This service was born from a collaboration between Calbee which is thinking about the future of food. Metagen which is at the forefront of gut environment research in Japan and AMILI, Asia’s leading microbiome company, which spun out of the National University of Singapore.

The gut microbiome—an ecosystem of roughly 1,000 types and 40 trillion bacteria living in the gut—is now often referred to as “your other organ,” and research on it is being conducted worldwide.
In recent years, particular attention has focused on the health benefits of short-chain fatty acids produced by gut microbiome, with numerous scientific papers published on the topic.
To live a more energetic and healthy life, it is important to increase the production of these short-chain fatty acids.
To achieve this, understanding your own gut microbiome and supporting it effectively through your diet is essential.
These substances are produced by gut microbiome when they eat food such as dietary fiber, and include acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid. Various research results have been reported in the literature on the health benefits of short-chain fatty acids produced by gut microbiome, such as improved basal metabolism.
In fact, each person's gut microbiome is different.
Even if something is said to be good for your gut, it may not actually be good for your gut.

Recently, foods containing ingredients that are said to be good for the gut have become popular, but this does not necessarily mean that they are good for your gut.
Even if you continue to consume ingredients that are generally considered good for the gut, the benefits may be limited if your gut microbiome does not respond well to them. Short-chain fatty acids are produced when the gut microbiome breaks down these ingredients. If you do not consume ingredients that are optimal for your own gut microbiome, you will not be able to increase the production of short-chain fatty acids.
It has been scientifically proven that barley improves blood sugar levels, but the effect varies greatly from person to person, and when the guts of people who showed a high effect were examined, they found that there were many bacteria called "Prevotella." Prevotella has a tendency to eat barley, and its active function was responsible for the high effect. (Quoted from research paper Kovatcheva et al., 2015)

CALBEE
About the operating company

President and CEO of Calbee, Inc.
Makoto Ehara

Contributing to healthy living through food has been Calbee‘s mission since its founding in 1949. Since then, when many people faced nutritional deficiencies, healthy life expectancy has now increased significantly, and it is said that we are now living in an era where we can live to 100 years old. In order to achieve a richer and more fulfilling longevity, it is important for us to pay attention to our own health condition on a daily basis and to review our daily dietary habits in accordance with our lifestyle. We can create a society where we can understand our own condition through tests and questionnaires, and make evidence-based dietary choices. We will continue to work hard, actively collaborating with external organizations, to implement systems that contribute to healthy living in society.
